Outlets located outside the house are susceptible to weather changes, and it is better to have a protective covering for such that will prevent water and other factors from damaging it.

Rodents such as rats contribute to most electric related fires. These animals would sometimes create openings in the wirings that may ignite a fire. It is very important to keep the house rodent free try having a pest control service regularly. Another important aspect to be considered is the combustible materials that are located near an outlet or equipments such as heaters; this includes carpets, curtains and other materials that are easily burnt. Never place them at very close distances because a small spark can easily burn these materials. Wires that are placed under carpet accounts for most of the electric related files. As for the plugs of many appliances, it should be regularly checked for cracks and breaks. The plugs should be firm and should fit snugly to the outlet.

Appliances need to be checked for function. A malfunction in the machine may be a source of fire if it overheats. Never use appliances that are damaged because it might give the person a shock. A shock felt upon touching certain equipment means that there is something wrong, and it is best to, immediately unplug the device and have it checked by a technician. Buying the approved appliances will ensure that it has been tested and proven to be safe for use. Plugs and outlets that are destroyed should be immediately replaced by a new one because it might electrocute anyone that tries to access it. It would be also best to avoid octopus wiring to avoid overloading. An overload might destroy the equipment or worst cause a fire.
